About This Game Insane 2 offers a number of innovations in the off-road racing genre. Besides the traditional time trial mode, the game features 9 other game modes, including the popular “Capture the flag”, “Gate hunt” and “Pathfinder”, as well as some new competitions, such as bonus hunting, territory control and helicopter pursuit. Great graphic, good handling of the vehicles and ingenious maps. With many things to unlock and many game modes you have hours of fun.. This game is quite good, but this isn't "1nsane" that we know and love. No free roam? WTF?. I just started playing the game, I didn't expected to be good, but it is definetly a good surprise.. This isn't much like the first game, but it's pretty awesome in a different way. Graphics looks really great, AI drivers are good, maps and gameplay are very varied and never boring. Split screen is good too. All in all, top quality if you want a crazy fast paced arcade racer. The only disapointment is the damage system from the first game is gone, no soft body physics, you're just broken or you're not.. This is by far my favorite arcade off road racing game since Test Drive Offroad Wide Open! If you are a big fan of Insane 1 by CodeMasters this game is most likely not for you. A russian company called Targem Games bought the rights to Insane and have completely redone almost every aspect of the game. They added a nitro boost, a strong vertical attractor to the vehicles to keep them upright when turning sharp, an auto upright system for when you sit upside down for a while so you don't have to hold the flip button like in Insane 1, removed the iconic soft body physics of the first game, and removed the ability to free roam.I love both Insane 1 and Insane 2 but I have to treat them as completely seperate games. If you like crazy arcade fun without any mod support Insane 2 is for you. If you want a realistic vehicle racing game with a huge modding community and soft body physics go play Insane 1.. Really easy game to get into. Mechanics are simple. Game modes are pretty fun. All in all a great game for the money. Now if only more people still played it!!. The RACING is okay... it -looks- wonderful... but theres not even close to enough of it.. at all!80% of the maps are a Scramble-around driving to random waypoints that change while your driving, -Constantly-. so its utterly Luck of the draw as to weather you win a match. your better off just sitting by one gate and waiting for it to cycle back to your gate to drive through. no wait it wont ever do that because it doesn't pick any gates near -players!- the AI precalculates (path finds) the best fastest path to any new checkpoint or item drop regardless of its location. The AI knows the fastest paths "Around the world" (Remember arari ASTEROIDS?) If you like racing games "Steer Clear" (pun intended) of "Insane 2" what a fantastic bunch of Baha-physics, wasted on a non-racing game. Even with a Trainer-Program seriously cheating for you, you'll still fail every Crate-Grab or Random checkpoint (same difference) a few times unless you've got that 'win the lotto!' luck.Oh and the "Catchup physics" is worth a bunch of rotten tomatoes. I decided to let the other cars just drive off, and sat there for 75% of a lap during an actual race. They had nearly a full lap head start on a 2:50 second loop. i was able to catch up to them by the middle of "lap 2" surpass them by 20 car-lengths, only to have them rubber-band sling shot back in front of me at the end of the race.so, never mind speed. just poke along with and behind the pack till lap 2, and you'll just pass first place at the finish line every time.this game looks great, but it plays like a waste of time hope and effort. 80% of the game is the unfair "Reload and wait for the RNG god to bless you" I want to be clear, no level of skill matters at all in any of the many many jamboree or greed matches which are more then 2 thirds of this game.STAY AWAY. Don't buy this! Or you'll end up paying for an pay for an anger management class too! That, or have to get used to a controller-shaped hole in your monitor.You know what, Ask for a refund NOW, before you even buy it! That's really the best way to get the point across to devs.EDIT: Still sucks!. I've played the original 1nsane. I played the demo I'd gotten on a CD with a magazine, and then I played the full game as soon as I found it. I loved 1nsane. I played the hell out of 1nsane. This, sir, is not 1nsane.It's not bad, but Insane 2 isn't as good as the original. But it is a fun little off-road, open-arena racer. Jamboree, Off-Road Racing and Capture the Flag are still around, and they're mostly good (though the cars seem to roll over way to easily with the flag than in the original). And there are new gaming modes as well. Yeah... about those...I think that Insane 2 suffers more from "sequelitis" than anything else. It's bigger than the first game. It's prettier than the first game. It's a lot more frantic than the first game. And it suffers for it.The graphics are incredible. 1nsane wasn't ugly, but this is a very pretty game. The cars don't deform as interestingly in Insane 2, but aside from that, the stages are so good looking. The Thunderstorm stage in particular has so much going on... which leads to my main criticism. There's too much going on. And it distracts (and detracts) from the gameplay.Each race has at least 6 competitors (up from 4 in the original) meaning that there are more cars running around, pushing into you. There's nitro now, which means that everyone is faster, and the racing itself is a lot more frantic (made even more so by the motion blur). On the Thunderstorm stage, your car can be struck by lightning, which looks metal, but if you're trying to play catch-up, and you lose the race because you got hit at the wrong time, it's more than a bit frustrating.The nitro does add a certain something to the racing, and getting upgrade points does give the game some aspect of strategy. Upgrading also changes the looks of the cars (which is always nice). But it keeps reminding me of 1nsane, and stuff that's no longer around.Each league had a pool of cars available (and it seemed as though there were a lot more of them). Vehicles had a differential lock. There was a separate button for repair, and a separate one for recovering the car. And one for righting a car if it rolled over. 1nsane was just... better.Insane 2 introduces a number of new modes. There's Knockout, in which the last competitor through a checkpoint is removed every 30 seconds. Greed is probably the most fun, because you run around the map collecting bronze, silver and gold packages for points (probably a replacement for Demolition, and good riddance to it). And Pursuit, which was invented by the Devil, who laughs maniacally as He forces you to chase His helicopter around through a bumpy, bouncy arena while your competitors keep pushing you off course.Odd that. I started out this review, thinking I'd just lightly criticize Insane 2 while extolling how much fun it is to play. But really, compared to the original, this is no fun at all.. I dont really want to make a bad review, so I recommend this game. not as good as 1nsane, but good
